It starts with raw metal
I start with a piece of raw aluminum or rusty steel that usually gets taped off to reveal a metal border when un-taping the finished piece. Some pieces I allow to bleed to the edge with no border.
Adding paint.
Each layer of paint must dry before adding the next since the paint is delicate at this stage. I create patterns and drips for the base layers, then gradually add more layers.
Delicate layering.
Hundreds of layers of paint are added. Some paint is opaque while other areas are layered so transparently that the mirror-like quality of the aluminum comes through. That’s what makes Stacy’s process so unique.
Finishing touches.
Some pieces are varnished while some have resin as the final layer. The resin adds a glass-like layer to the final piece which creates even more depth allowing all of those beautiful layers to be seen.
Reflectivity.
As the light hits the final piece, all the layers and metal surface shine through creating a dynamic viewing experience.
